Vinyl Records-A Classic Experience

If you’re a collector then anything vintage is what you think of when you think of “classic” antiques. With the conversation of classic vinyl pretty much any type of an LP could be considered vintage given the reason that they are simply not being manufactured as they once were. Thanks to advances in technology, all of our songs are digitally made. However, before there was a CD or MP3 there was vinyl. For previous eras, pop music meant Frank Sinatra. You can’t be a music collector without Frank Sinatra vinyl in your compilation.

It’s hard to imagine what kind of impact a singer can have before the age of MTV or YouTube.

As it turns out, Frank Sinatra created his own wave of fan hysteria by just showing up to his club dates. You could count on armies of “bobby-soxers” to be at all of Sinatra’s concerts. Around the 40’s, Sinatra made the round on radio shows crooning alongside stars like Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

Towards the end of the 40’s, some of the luster on Frank’s career began to diminish, but he came back with power thanks to a star part in the movies that had nothing to do with singing. After an intense lobbying effort, Frank was hired to play a supporting part in From Here to Eternity. His work earned him an Academy Award and started his singing career all over again.

Frank Sinatra started working with Capitol Records in 1953 where he starred on a wide variety of classic vinyl albums. For these concept albums, Frank partnered with famed arrangers Nelson Riddle, Gordon Jenkins and Billy May.

Among the collectible records in this particular Frank Sinatra vinyl partnership are Swing Easy (1954), In the Wee Small Hours (1955), Songs For Swingin’ Lovers (1956) and the very popular Come Fly With Me (1957). All of these albums were chart-topping successes for Sinatra.

After the accomplishments of his career at Capitol Records, Frank decided to start Reprise Records as his own company. His first recording, Ring-A-Ding-Ding (1961), was an instant classic. The much favored Rat Rack started at this same time. The other founding members of the Rat Pack were Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford. Las Vegas, Chicago and New York were among the fortunate cities where the Rat Pack performed. Some of these unique concerts were recorded for posterity such as Sinatra at the Sands. Pretty much anything with the Rat Pack is considered a very cool collectible.

For a single performer to be a success in music, television, movies and performance is rare.

Frank Sinatra is such a star and is looked up to this very day by everyone who enjoys classic pop music.
